Huntingdon Hypnosis Questions

Questions and answers regarding hypnotherapy

How does Hypnosis work ?

The mind works at two levels - the conscious and subconscious. The conscious level of our mind deals with logic, helps us make decisions and controls our deliberate actions. Whereas the subconscious mind holds all our beliefs and habits. Once we enter a state of hypnosis the conscious mind takes a back seat allowing us to access the subconscious mind to change your beliefs and habits using positive suggestions during a heightened level of subconscious suggestibility.

Can anyone be Hypnotised ?

Hypnosis is a natural state we all enter many times each day so yes, with a few exceptions. Everybody (including the mentally ill) has the potential to be Hypnotised.

Can Hypnosis make me do something against my will ?

Absolutely not. This is the biggest misconception of all! Although stage Hypnotists seem to make people do all kinds of weird and wonderful things the truth of the matter is these people are fulfilling these suggestions because they have a deep hidden desire to be outrageous or the centre of attention. Stage Hypnotists select their prey very carefully and have tuned their ability to quickly select this certain type of personality.

What if I don't wake up ?

No one has ever been stuck in a permanent state of Hypnosis, it simply cannot happen. For example if the Hypnotist left the room you would eventually fall asleep, wake up naturally, or your subconscious mind would be aware the calming voice was no longer guiding you and bring you back into conscious awareness.

How long does a session last ?

Sessions normally last for about one hour although stop smoking sessions tend to last one and a half hours.

How does hypnosis feel ?

Each person's experience is slightly different. Your body will become totally relaxed allowing your mind to wander and enjoy the experience. Hypnosis is a natural state and some people will not even recall being Hypnotised. You can hear everything that is going on around you and you may find you loose a sense of time. In general it is a very pleasant feeling of total relaxation where you feel little inclination to move or open your eyes. I don't think I can be

Hypnotised, can you help ?

Anyone can force themselves not to enter an Hypnotic state just as you can force yourself to stay awake, but as long as you are willing to cooperate you can learn to relax and let yourself undergo hypnotherapy.
